I have been working in import/export since 1974, and since 1984 self-employed trading on my own account.
When I was young I saw that the very best practicing doctors, lawyers, engineers... the leaders in every field, also taught. I assumed they taught because they were the best. When an opportunity for me to offer a seminar opened, I took it. Now I think they were the best because they taught.
Confucius said if you want to learn, teach.
I am gratified by the feedback I get on my book, seminar and consulting. As long as the feedback remains good, I'll continue to offer the help. I spent a few college years working summers with gardeners. We spent a few moments each morning sharpening our tools. It made the rest of the day much easier and our results better. Teaching, writing, consulting is like that: it keeps things sharp, it does not take a lot of time, and it leads to better results in my own work.
